Overview

The Mono County Health Department and the Town of Mammoth Lakes Parks & Recreation Department are seeking applications from youth in Mono County to serve on the 2016/17 Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).   Committee members will be actively involved in recreation and health related program development and evaluation, event planning, policy recommendations, and promoting the benefits of parks and recreation, including county-wide health and wellness initiatives and programs.  The YAC works to educate and empower committee members to be leaders and to advocate for positive change for youth in our community.  Committee members will learn how to engage with, and influence decision makers by participating in municipal government, and by working with Town and County staff to plan, implement and evaluate community-centric programs and services.

Purpose

The Parks and Recreation Department and Mono County Health Department are looking to enhance their programs, amenities and services by soliciting ideas, interests, and opinions from the youth they serve. The YAC provides the platform for young people to acquire the skills necessary to become confident and effective community leaders, by participating in the decision-making process that affects their lives. YAC Members will be interacting with community decision makers, working closely with both Town and County staff, and government appointed advisory bodies, such as the Recreation Commission, Mammoth Lakes Town Council and the Mono County Board of Supervisors.
